Start Here

Six years ago, I started an internship at a large corporate conglomerate. I was bright eyed and excited for life to finally start.

Three years ago, I was on the fast track to “success.” My promotion was announced in an overpriced sushi restaurant…I excused myself and bawled my eyes out in the washroom stall.

One year ago, I realized I should have quit five years ago.

On November 18, 2017, I decided to stop making excuses and build a life that doesn’t involve waking up each morning dreading the upcoming 8 hours trapped in the cubicle salt mine.

(Oh, and I also got dumped once. I dealt with it by drinking copious amounts of wine and pouring my heart out to my new Internet friends who cheered me on while I sifted through the wreckage and got over the asshole. You can read about it here.)

  1. I really, really wanted to send you a private message but I don’t think there is such feature on this platform.

I too started blogging for the same reason, same story, same grandeur over 3 continents, same guy (as in “all guys are pigs” haha) .

    Gosh, please be OK.

I am slowly getting there too.

    1. You’re right, there is no PM feature on WordPress strangely. I guess it forces everything out in the open?

Every time someone can relate (and it sounds like you relate to a tee), it really lifts my spirits a little bit. Thank you for sharing your similar story.

I look forward to following your blog and reading about someone who has gone through the same tiring journey.

      1. Hi! If you set up a Contact page with a message form, those show up in in a special section of your blog (Comments, I believe). If you don’t have an email address associated with your blog, people can “email” you this way.

  2. Your tagline was enough to get me in! I know they (being blogging101) told us to keep it short but I think yours is brilliant. And yep, I don’t know you from a bar of soap but already cheering you on. You can do it! 🙂

  3. Started following because I can’t wait to see you get to Zen! Brilliantly funny blog, as others have said, already cheering you on. You go.

PS I’d take out the “hopefully” in your tagline – because it’s going to happen, no hopefully about it! 😉

  4. Hi. I just nominated you for the Sisterhood of the World Award – but you’ve already got one, so stick this spare one in your pocket. Your blog just keeps getting better and better – don’t stop!

  5. Thanks for the “follow”, thought I’d hop onto yours, and WOW, it just made me wonder what attracted you to mine, or were you blindfolded when you hit mine?? Ha ha, a fellow Torontonian, and an amazing blog. You sure are gifted with drawing a crowd with your words, wonderful penmanship, injected with subtle humor. I’m sorry you went through what you did with the douchebag, but life’s a journey and so is love and the pursuit of happiness. I’m probably old enough to be your mother, but I went through 3 similar relationships, each time moving countries…and I survived (one of them was moving from TO to the US) Your writing this blog is def a step in the right direction. Each time I picked myself up and moved on. It was so hard, you’ll survive too. All the very best, I’ll be watching and waiting to hear your progress.

    1. Hi Loretta! Your recipes look absolutely delicious, and I could use all the help I can get in the kitchen. As you may have noticed through my blog posts, I essentially exist off of ramen noodles and wine. Assuming I can’t keep this up for too much longer!

Yay for fellow Torontonians! Such a small world. I oftentimes wonder if I ever pass any of my WordPress friends as I’m out and about in the real world.

I really, really appreciate your comments about my writing. I think I’m still coming into my own and developing my own style, but I’ve truly enjoyed writing for the first time in years. I took some professional writing courses in University, but never had the courage to continue!

I also really enjoy hearing that other people have gone through similar experiences and come out on the other end (stronger and better)! I agree that writing this blog is a step in the right direction and has been incredibly cathartic.

Thanks for taking the time to read and to follow. I have saved your mini lemon cheesecake recipe in my files and am looking forward to trying to make them! One of my bucket list items is to try a new recipe each month. Will keep you posted!

  6. Hello! I’m following along. 🙂 Looks like we are heading down similar paths this year. Looking forward to sharing your journey.

  7. Okay, now I’ve read ALL your posts and liked almost all of them. I have to say I’ve become your fan. Keep up the good work, you made me smile while I’m still in a very foul mood. Thanks for stopping by so I could find you blog! 🙂

  8. You don’t have to accept it – but I nominated your blog for a Liebster Award. I am not offended if you decide not to participate, but I wanted to use the chance to let others know about your blog.
